So many exciting things have happened at the Sustainability Demonstration Center this year! A lot of postive energy, enthusiasm, and support from different people has helped us to expand upon the activities at the Center. Here are some recent highlights...

The University of Costa Rica Environmental Kiosks Program came to teach children in the community about recycling!

The University of Costa Rica, Puntarenas campus brought several free classes to our community, including English, Art, and Community Communication classes for both adults and children!

The Saturday Farmer's Market (locally known as "Feria de Guacimal") continues to thrive as a community event every Saturday afternoon, from 12pm to 5pm. It is a fun place for both locals and visitors to mingle, enjoy traditional Costa Rican food, and live marimba music. If you are in the area, please stop by!

We also welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering with us and supporting our efforts at the Sustainability Demonstration Center. Come for the day or stay for a few days!

Here are some of the different projects at the Center - volunteer in one or several areas:

-Native Tree Nursery for Reforestation (Fundación Conservacionista Costarricense)
-River Monitoring/Environmental Protection
-Social and Economic Justice - the ongoing farmer's market is an example of a pilot community-based Project
-Medicinal and Ornamental Plants
-Restoration of the Historic Building - this houses the Sustainability Demonstration Center activities
-Vegetable Garden
-Landscaping
-Animal Husbandry
-Rural Tourism Project (Neotropic Foundation)
-Local Library Project (small donations program)
-Other projects underway: biodigestor, greywater treatment,  virtual communications and research, biodiversity inventories, watershed monitoring and protection, and more!

Please tell your friends and family about the Center and the work that we do...
and please stop by and join us! All are welcome!
